I am sure Max Merrit and the Meteors were not thinking of this message when they wrote the lyrics of this song, but if you know the song well perhaps you might want to hear what Jesus is saying to the modern church today. You might not know you are slipping away, this might show you how you are.

I suppose the question has to be asked, would God the Father inspire a song so that one day I could take it apart and bring His church a message. The answer is yes, God can even rebuke a prophet with a donkey!
This song is about a lover singing to His partner. As we are the Lord Jesus Bride, you can see that we are also in a relationship with Him.

We have to realise that Jesus watches everything in heaven. In the Book of Revelation the church that was mentioned last by Jesus was called lukewarm and he said that if they did not repent that he would spew them out of His mouth. I am not sure about you, but I know if I spewed something out of my mouth I wouldn’t want it back.
He says he has been “Watchin’ everything you do.”
What have the church been doing. What is the charge of Jesus to the church in Revelation?
Revelation 3:17
17You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
John warned us about being rich according to the things of the world.
1 John 2:15-17
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
That’s a pretty strong statement saying we should not love the world or the things of the world.
It obvious when the Christians of the world are most often found to own some of the most expensive houses, cars and all other manner of things. John rebukes us for sinning with the lusts of the flesh, liking to look good, dress in the modern fashion, look good in our expensive cars, and look good in our houses. John rebukes us and not to be proud what we have achieved in life, the pride of life, he calls it.
James, the brother of Jesus makes some even stronger statements about loving the things of the world.
James 4:4
4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
So how much do you have to own to be a friend of the world? Well Jesus is not happy. You can tell that the wealthy in the World don’t care about the poor that much as the poor continue to exist.
Very few people understand these days that it is possible to love God enough not to want the things of the world. When God has a big call on your life, it’s not important to have the best brands and the best of everything.

We have been sold a lie by the advertising companies of the World. For years and years we have been watching free to air Television and watching advertisements and we have been getting sold the trash of the world. We are told we will look better, smell better, be better accepted and be more successful if we own this and this.
We look at the cars that drive up our suburb and we have to have a car, ( pride of life, lust of the eyes) that looks just as good. What we don’t know what we are doing is that we are coveting and we are being taught that coveting is normal and good.
This is what God says about it.
Exodus 20:17
17 “You shall not covet your neighbour’s house. You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.”
Prophets don’t seem to be teaching the church these days and telling people that a covetous people will not make it into heaven.
And I just can’t help but feelin’

The other people stealing the people of God away from God are the false teachers and false men of God that are teaching the prosperity doctrine.
They teach if you give your tithes then it is quite okay to be a millionaire and have all the best things money can buy. These false teachers drive cars worth $250,000 and own houses worth multiple millions of dollars and stay in rooms that are $5000 a night when they do ministry.
Yes the advertisers of the world and the prosperity teachers of the world would get a stern rebuke from the Lord.
God wants you to repent. He wants you not only to tithe but to make sure the poor Christians of the world are being given money to support them.
I see it written in your eyes

I would rather that you told me, where you wanna be,
Jesus says:
You come into my presence and into my church and you sing me great love songs about how I love you. Many of you are not happy and many of you sing to feel my presence in the church and it is the only time you feel my presence when you sing
Then outside after church you get talking about how boring the message was and how this person has returned to their sin lifestyle. You get hurt by someone and rather then rebuking them in private and asking for them to repent you gossip and tell the whole church.
You tell me that you love me but you refuse to turn the other cheek. In the Old Testament you read all the promises and you claim them over your life and in the same Bible your ignore My Law and the judgements written there.
You sing that you love me and most of you don’t tithe and have clever teachers that tell you that you don’t have to tithe anymore.
You sing that you love me but you won’t deny all the lusts in your life and take up your cross and follow me.
You think that I told the rich young ruler to sell all he owns give it to the poor and follow me and think I was not saying to you.
I said if you want to follow me, you must DENY yourself, take up your cross and follow me
Following me is not singing love songs to me each week and then living in contradiction to all that I taught you to do.
Following me is being holy and loving everyone even your enemies.
Many of you tell me lies.
I would rather you not chose to tell me lies and praise my name. Don’t spend your life telling me that you honour my name and refuse to obey what I taught!
Don’t spend every prayer meeting thanking me for my cross
Use that cross, use my blood, repent and stop sinning.
Then go and give your money to the poor and lay up riches in heaven where the stock market or recession won’t get them.
